Momentum Physiotherapy

It is normal to wonder what will happen at a first physiotherapy appointment, especially if you are dealing with pain or recovering from an injury. You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis or know exactly which treatment you need. The first visit is a chance to explain what is going on, understand what may be contributing, and agree on practical next steps.

Before you arrive

Think about when your symptoms began, what makes them better or worse, and how they affect daily activities, work, exercise, or sleep. Bring relevant information such as imaging reports, surgical instructions, or a list of medications if you have them. If your concern relates to surgery, follow any precautions from your surgeon and bring those instructions so your physiotherapist can account for them.

Wear clothing that lets you move comfortably and allows access to the area being assessed. For example, shorts may be useful for a knee concern. You can ask the clinic ahead of time if you are unsure what to wear or whether to bring anything specific.

What happens during the assessment

At Momentum Physiotherapy, the initial assessment is one hour and appointments are never double-booked. The visit takes place in a private treatment room, with access to the clinic’s gym when it is useful for movement or exercise assessment. Your physiotherapist will ask about your health and goals, then may assess movement, strength, balance, or other functions related to your concern. The assessment should be explained as it goes, and you can ask questions or let the clinician know if something is uncomfortable.

Assessment does not mean every test or treatment will be appropriate for every person. The physiotherapist should consider your history, symptoms, and preferences when deciding what to explore. If you have a concern about an examination or exercise, say so; the plan can be discussed and adapted.

Agree on a useful next step

Before you leave, expect time to review what the findings may mean, discuss options, and set goals. You may receive exercises or advice to try between visits, or a recommendation for follow-up. Ask how often to do an exercise, what response is expected, and what to do if symptoms change. A good plan should be understandable and realistic for your schedule.

If your visit is for an ICBC or WorkSafeBC claim, Momentum Physiotherapy handles those claims with direct billing. The clinic also offers online booking and a free 15-minute phone consult if you would like to ask a question before booking. To arrange your initial assessment, book online or contact the clinic.
