Momentum Physiotherapy

Your first physiotherapy appointment is a chance to explain what is bothering you and work out what may help. You do not need to arrive knowing the cause of your symptoms or with a list of perfect answers. A useful assessment starts with your experience, your questions, and what you want to get back to doing.

Expect time for your story and goals

At Momentum Physiotherapy in Burnaby, initial assessments are one hour and appointments are never double-booked. Your physiotherapist will ask about your symptoms, when they began, what affects them, and how they are changing. They may also ask about your health history, work, sport, previous treatment, and the activities that matter to you.

It can help to think ahead about your main concern and one or two goals. For example, you might want to manage stairs more comfortably, return to running, or cope better with a full workday. Bring a list of medications or relevant medical information if you have one, along with any instructions or restrictions from a surgeon or other clinician.

Movement checks help shape the plan

Your physiotherapist may ask you to move, test strength or balance, or complete other checks related to your concern. The assessment is tailored to the reason you booked. You can ask what a test is for, and let your physiotherapist know if something feels uncomfortable or if you need a pause. Wear clothing that makes it practical to assess the relevant area and move comfortably.

After the assessment, your physiotherapist should explain their findings in plain language and discuss possible next steps. Depending on your needs and the time available, the visit may include initial treatment or exercises. You can ask how often to practice them, what to watch for, and how the plan may change as you progress.

Ask about practical details

Before you leave, make sure you understand the next step and have a chance to raise any concerns. If you are recovering from surgery, bring any current precautions or rehabilitation guidance. For a work-related or motor vehicle injury, ask about the paperwork and payment process that applies to your claim. Momentum Physiotherapy handles ICBC and WorkSafeBC claims with direct billing.

The clinic has private treatment rooms and a 1,200-square-foot gym, and offers evening and Saturday hours. Online booking is available, and a free 15-minute phone consultation can help you ask initial questions before arranging an appointment.
